OVERVIEW: Infrared Countermeasure (IRCM) systems are defensive technologies designed to protect aircraft and vehicles from infrared-guided missile threats by disrupting their tracking and targeting sensors.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Infrared Countermeasure systems detect incoming heat-seeking missiles and emit directed infrared energy or flares to confuse or blind missile seekers, reducing the risk of a successful hit. IRCM devices range from simple flare dispensers to sophisticated laser-based jamming systems that provide active protection. They are commonly installed on military aircraft, helicopters, and some ground vehicles to enhance survivability against MANPADS and other IR-guided threats.

ROLE SUMMARY:
Category: Infrared Defensive Countermeasure
Primary Use: Protection against infrared-guided missile threats
Function: Detection and disruption of missile seeker tracking via IR emission or flares
Platform: Military aircraft, helicopters, armored vehicles
Integration: Works alongside radar warning receivers, missile approach warning systems, and other countermeasure suites
